VIDEO | Elementary school surprises South Russell Police officer with sendoff

Officer Kramer has served the families and staff of Gurney Elementary School since 2012

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio --  A South Russell police officer, heading off to retirement was relieved of duty in style.

Since 2012 Officer Mike Kramer has worked patrol at Gurney Elementary School in Chagrin Falls.

According to the school district, in his time at the school Officer Kramer has helped to keep the staff, students and their families safe.

“He went above and beyond by learning everyone’s names, shoveling snow off sidewalks, helping a parent of a child with separation anxiety, assisting a student to the clinic after falling on the sidewalk, and even lending a hand to a parent with a stalled car.” The school district said in a release.  “He is well-known by students, their families and staff members because of his kind acts.”

As a “thank you” Officer Kramer received thank you cards and his own special escort as students lined up to applaud him as he walked down halls for the last time.

“We can only hope that the officers who fill his role at Gurney most often will follow in his footsteps and see the value in that personal connection,” said Principal Rachel Jones, Gurney Elementary School.

Congratulations Officer Kramer!
