The man who fatally shot K-9 Jethro will spend 45 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday, according to the Canton Repository.

The Canton Repository wrote:

Kelontre D. Barefield, 23, agreed to the sentence after pleading guilty to all charges in two cases, one of which involved the shooting of Jethro. He had originally pleaded not guilty to all charges.

According to WKYC articles:

On January 9, 2016 while searching a business that had been broken into, Jethro located Barefield who was hiding. Barefield shot the dog in the face two times and in the shoulder. The next day, he died from the wounds. Barefield also exchanged gunfire with two officers.

According to the Canton Repository, Barefield faced up to 57 years in prison from that incident and other unrelated incidents.
