MENTOR -- One man was injured after crashing into a semi truck while fleeing police Tuesday morning.
Police say an officer spotted a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was reported stolen on Lakeshore Boulevard near Corduroy Road.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and as he exited his patrol car, the driver ignored his commands and fled the scene. The officer did not pursue the fleeing vehicle.
The driver of the stolen car fled down French Boulevard and turned north onto Shandle Boulevard. The driver failed to yield at a stop sign and struck semi tractor trailer traveling eastbound on Lakeshore Boulevard. The Jeep and its driver became trapped beneath the tractor trailer.
The Jeep driver was taken to MetroHealth via LifeFlight. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
