Lake County boil alert lifted

No contamination was detected

The boil alert for several Lake County communities is now over.

Just after 11 p.m. on Thursday night, the Lake County Department of Utilities lifted the alert after collected samples underwent analysis. No contamination was detected.

"With public health and human safety our top priority, we are encouraging people to continue following the boil alert until final test results are in, which is expected to occur by midnight tonight," the department's statement read. The alert was lifted about 45 minutes ahead of that schedule.

The alert was sent out on Wednesday evening for portions of Willoughby, Willoughby Hills, and Wickliffe, as a result of a pump malfunction at the Route 91 and 84 water tower. The alert advised residents to not drink or use their water supply without flushing or boiling it first.

The areas highlighted in pink and green on the map below are the ones that were impacted by the boil alert.
