MENTOR, Ohio —

A 56-year-old man is in custody after a standoff with Mentor Police on Sunday evening.

Officers responded to a domestic violence call at a house on Grace Drive around 8:45 p.m. The 68-year-old victim called police from a neighbor's house and was eventually taken to Tri-Point Hospital, where she was treated and released for injuries.

The suspect, 56-year-old John Sines, refused to come to the door when police arrived and barricaded himself inside the house. Sines was reportedly armed with a gun and had threatened to use it.

The Mentor SWAT team along with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team entered the home after numerous attempts to get Sines to surrender failed.  Sines was taken into custody at 5:42 a.m. Neither he nor any of the officers were injured. A gun was recovered at the time of the arrest.

Sines has been charged with Felonious Assault, Kidnapping, and Having Weapons Under Disability. He also faces misdemeanor charges of Aggravated Menacing and Obstructing Official Business.
