Mentor police officer struck in cruiser while helping spun out driver

The officer is doing okay and the roads are back open.

LAKE COUNTY, Ohio — A Mentor police officer was sent to the hospital Sunday night after his cruiser was struck from behind on I-90 eastbound.

The officer was helping a driver whose car had spun out. That's when the cruiser was struck from behind by another driver.

The officer went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He is expected to be okay. A passenger in the car that hit the officer was also sent to the hospital.They are expected to be okay, as well.

The crash closed Interstate 90 at SR 306 for about an hour. 

No further information is available at this time as the investigation is pending.
