Longtime Cleveland meteorologist, TV host Don Webster has died

Webster worked for WEWS News 5 for more than 30 years.

Don Webster, who as both a meteorologist and television host graced Cleveland's airwaves for more than 30 years, has died.

WEWS News 5 confirmed the news Thursday afternoon. Webster was brought to the station in 1964 to host a local music program known as The Big 5 Show. It proved so popular it eventually became nationally syndicated under the title Upbeat, drawing both local and national acts.

After Upbeat was canceled in 1971, Webster became Channel 5's chief weatherman, and apart from a brief period as station manager he served in that role until 1999. He also hosted Ohio Lottery drawings, Bowling for Dollars, Academic Challenge, and a local talk show called The Morning Exchange.

Webster was inducted into the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1995.
