ELYRIA, Ohio — A North Ridgeville woman was cited for cruelty to animals after a dog was found locked in a car with the windows up at an Elyria Burger King restaurant on Saturday.

When Elyria Police arrived to the Cleveland Street location just after 1:00 p.m., they found the black and brown Shiba Inu inside a yellow Chevy Cobalt with both windows up. The dog was panting heavily and was scratching at the windows and doors in apparent distress. There was no food or water inside the vehicle.

Officers were able to free the dog from the car using a tow truck company to open the passenger door. The dog was taken to the Lorain County kennel.

A few hours later, police received a call from 20-year-old Cenzie Boyle wondering where the dog was. She told officers that the Chevy was having mechanical issues which caused her to park the car at Burger King and leave on Friday night.

When asked why she left the dog inside the car, Boyle told officers, "I was trying to figure everything out." She added that she had checked on the dog early Saturday morning.
