Police: Alcohol suspected factor in deadly Lorain crash

A Lorain man was killed in the crash.

LORAIN -- Police believe alcohol was a factor in a crash that killed a Lorain man early Saturday.

The crash happened around 3:24 a.m. at the intersection of W. 14th Street and Oberlin Avenue.

Police say a 2002 GMC Envoy was traveling southbound in the 1300 block of Oberlin Avenue at a high rate of speed when it crossed the railroad tracks and went airborne. When the vehicle landed, it began to rotate and struck a curb on the west side of the road. It left the road and struck a utility pole, rolling onto its side while ejecting the driver.

The vehicle came to rest in the intersection of Oberlin Avenue and W. 15th Street.

Police identified the driver as 31-year-old Kacy Leonard Thorpe, who later died at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

Police say Thorpe was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash. Police also say alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
