LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio — The Milan Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that took place in Lorain County on Wednesday evening.
According to officials, a semi went off the side of the road near the westbound exit ramp from the Ohio Turnpike to Baumhart Road. The semi hit an embankment and a minivan before landing in a ditch. The vehicle then caught on fire, trapping the driver inside.
The semi driver died as a result of the crash. He has been identified as 50-year-old Jeffery Felder of Cordova, South Carolina.
Authorities say the driver of the minivan was not hurt in the crash, but the right front passenger of Olmsted Falls was seriously hurt.
There were two children in the minivan as well, but neither sustained any serious injuries.
The Highway Patrol was assisted by the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission Maintenance Department, South Amherst Fire, Life Care EMS and Interstate Towing.
