Teacher, driver assaulted on school bus while returning from Cedar Point field trip

This is a developing story.

Officials are investigating a brawl that took place Tuesday night on a school bus in Sheffield Village.

The bus belonging to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District was transporting students from Cedar Point back to Cleveland when the incident occurred.

According to reports, students attacked a teacher and the bus driver.

The incident caused the bus driver to pull over at a Speedway Gas station located at 5230 Detroit Rd.

Sheffield Village Police and Highway Patrol responded to the scene, but Cleveland Metropolitan Schools Police will handle the investigation.

Officials at CMSD say the fight was isolated to just a few students, but a dispatch recording obtained by WKYC implies a more intense situation.

At the scene, three students were taken into custody.

Cleveland Schools issued the following statement Wednesday evening regarding the incident:

"While it is unfortunate we had to refer three students for discipline, we are very proud of the CMSD students who filled two busses on their trip to Cedar Point this week and exhibited the behaviors we expect of our students on what was planned to be an enjoyable day for all of them."

No injuries were reported.

This is a developing story, stay with WKYC for updates as they become available.
