Santa's helpers can respond to letters from Clevelanders to Santa Claus

USPS's "Operation Santa" is expanding to include letters to Santa Claus coming from Cleveland.

CLEVELAND — On Monday's Lunch Break with Jay Crawford, digital anchor Stephanie Haney let us know that if you're writing to Santa Claus from Cleveland this year, you have a better chance of getting that letter answered.

Every year the U.S. Postal Service gets tons of letters addressed to Santa Claus, and when they can, postal employees respond to those letters.

The post office says while most letters ask for toys and games, some ask for basic necessities, or even help for themselves and their loved ones.

Starting this year, the post office is adding letters from Cleveland to its website, where others will have the opportunity to "adopt" those letters.

By adopting a letter, people are agreeing to respond and fulfill the wish of the person who wrote in.

For those concerned about children's safety, don't worry.  The post officie says all personal information, like the name and address of both the person who sent the letter in and the person who is responding, is protected.

If you want to send a letter, Santa has a new address so make sure you use the right one: Santa Claus, 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888.

To look for your letter online or adopt one to respond to, visit the website at USPSOperationSanta.com.
