The nine stages of saying goodbye at any gathering

It all starts with the "welp..." and ends with a wave from the window, but there are a lot of steps in between.

CLEVELAND — On Thursday’s Lunch Break with Jay Crawford, we had some fun talking about how difficult it is to say goodbye and get out the door at all of those family functions and outings with friends over the holidays.

An article by Odyssey outlined the nine different stages of trying to say your farewells that everyone from the Midwest can relate to.

The stages, in order of appearance, are the “welp...” that gets things started, hugs, walking to the door, doorway chat, the first time someone utters the phrase “we should be going,” followed by that inevitable second round of hugs, finally placing your hand on door, the conversation that happens while the door slowly opens and the final wave from the window.
