Nearly 100 Cleveland State students to volunteer Saturday

Cleveland State University students have participated in Make a Difference Day for more than a decade, and nearly 100 are expected to volunteer this year.

Cleveland State University’s students have participated in Make a Difference Day for more than a decade, and nearly 100 are expected to volunteer this year.

The students will join hundreds of local residents in doing community projects this Saturday, a national day of service that impacts Cleveland and surrounding areas.

Not only have individual students from CSU have signed up, but several student organizations have registered as a group. Greek Life will be assisting with a beach cleanup over at Edgewater beach and CSU Student Government Association planned their retreat around a service initiative at Fairfield Partners, painting and working on fall landscaping clean up.

CSU's annual participation in Make a Difference Day is part of the university's larger ommitment to community service that places hundreds of students with nonprofits and in volunteer roles across the region.

WKYC employees will roll up their sleeves on Saturday and take part in a variety of projects, from painting and hosting a cookout at Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry's men's shelter to packing lunches and baking treats at Ronald McDonald House.

The public is invited to take part as well. Locally, projects are coordinated by BVU: The Center for Nonprofit Excellence. If you are interested in participating, you can sign up here, or by calling 216.736.7711

Make a Difference Day began in 1992 and has become one of the largest annual single days of service nationwide. The volunteer initiative is guided by TEGNA Inc., the parent company of WKYC, and Gannett media properties. The Arby’s Foundation and Points of Light

“TEGNA’s purpose is to empower the people we serve and make a positive impact in our communities,” said TEGNA Chief Executive Officer and President Gracia Martore in a statement. “Make a Difference Day provides us an opportunity to do just that.”
