Body found inside burning car in Medina County

The body's identity is not known at this time.

Officials say a human body was discovered inside a burning car in western Medina County Tuesday morning.

The sheriff's office says it received a call about black smoke coming from an oil access road near Garver Road in Chatham Township around 8:59 a.m. Chatham fire officials and sheriff's deputies later arrived on scene to find a vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

Once the fire was out, officials discovered the body inside, and investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the State Fire Marshall's Office were called in to assist. At this time, the identity of the body is not yet known, and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner will work to determine an official cause of death.

This matter remains under investigation.
