Investigators search for suspect after false report of shooter at Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital

Medina police say they received a call reporting a woman with a gun threatening people inside, but no such suspect was found.

Medina Police are investigating after receiving a call reporting that a female was armed with a gun and had taken hostages inside the South Medical Building of Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

After a thorough investigation, police determined the report was all a hoax.

Medina Police and Cleveland Clinic officers quickly secured the facility as the hospital was placed on lockdown just after 1:30 p.m. There was no sign of a suspect or anyone armed with a gun in the area of the South Medical Building and employees noted there was no suspicious activity.

Officers searched the hospital floor by floor, and a spokeswoman for the hospital said she and others were just hoping for a "safe ending." After the search was completed, an all-clear announcement was sent out.

Detectives from the Medina Police Department are engaged in an investigation to determine the origin of the call and the identity of the caller. Police emphasize the perpetrator of the hoax will face arrest and prosecution.

Russ Mitchell and Sara Shookman talked to a patient in the hospital during the period of the active shooter alert.

We spoke with a woman at the scene who said she had family members in the building.

Amani Abraham had more from Medina as patients, employees, and their families reacted to the hectic day.
