ASHLAND, Ohio — The members of the Ashland Police Division are mourning the loss of one of their own.
Lt. Gary Alting, a 25-year veteran of the force, died Tuesday night during an unspecified medical procedure. The division announced Alting's death Wednesday morning on its Facebook page.
"Probably the most popular APD officer, his story telling ability created thousands of smiles over the years," the post read, in part. "While he is missed, he will not be forgotten."
This afternoon, members of the force gathered at the city's justice center to hold a moment of silence at 1:37 p.m. The time signifies Alting's unit number.
Alting's exact cause of death has not yet been made public, and funeral arrangements have not been announced.
