Boy who was listed in critical condition after being pulled from icy waters of a Wayne County pond has died

The child was initially revived from full cardiac arrest and and was treated at Akron Children's Hospital.

DALTON, Ohio — Update, 7 P.M. on Dec. 25, 2019: The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed a child who fell in a pond in Wayne County has dead.

The 4-year-old passed away on Tuesday, according to officials.

Officials told 3News no more information was available at this time.

Original story: A young boy is in critical condition after he went into the freezing waters of a pond in Wayne County Sunday morning.

According to East Wayne Fire Chief Kyle Nussbaum, crews found a man and his grandson (between the ages of 4 and 6) clinging to the ice after having clearly been under the water. Both were saved, but the man then told firefighters a second grandson was still in the pond.

Officials went back and pulled the second boy (also between 4 and 6) from the water. He was in full cardiac arrest but was quickly revived, and is now at Akron Children's Hospital.

All three victims suffered from hypothermia, Nussbaum confirmed. While the grandfather and the first boy are expected to make full recoveries, the second child is currently in critical condition.

It is unknown at this time how the trio got into the water. Multiple departments assisted East Wayne in the rescue.
