The infamous Peach Truck makes a stop in Northeast Ohio

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Peach Truck from Georgia made its way to Highland Heights Wednesday afternoon with peaches that were no more than three days old.

Consumers were able to pre-order their peaches and scan a QR code to get their box, and lines were backed up through the parking lot with people waiting to get their hands on some precious southern Georgia peaches.

Team leader Alex Nawn says he travels the country delivering peaches to 13 different states with six different teams.

"The peaches are from Fort Valley Georgia, from some of the oldest peach farms in Georgia," Nawn said.

Employee Sam Way says there's a lot that goes into the farm, though.

Way told 3News' Kelly Matter that typically it takes about five years for a peach tree to be planted up to the point it can start producing fruit, and that, "as far as the land it's planted on, it can take up to 5, 6 maybe even 10 years for the soil to get in good condition to grow a very good peach.

According to the Natural Resources Conversation Service of Georgia, Tifton soil is among the most important agricultural soils in the state and about 27 percent of Georgia’s prime farmland is in areas of Tifton soils

Way said there are roughly 50 to 60 field workers that sweep the field to pick the peaches and can get it done in 30 minutes, on average.

"It feels really good because all the hard work and the years and years of getting it down to a science has really paid off and the consumer really enjoys the product, said Way."

The peach farms have been around since the late 1800s and have been making great peaches ever since.
