Hanover Township — A 54-year-old man is dead after the motorcycle he was driving crashed head-on into a car in Ashland County Friday evening.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Robert C. Bruce Jr., of Centerburg, Ohio, was riding his Harley Davidson Road King north on State Route 3 just south of Loudonville. Around 6:03 p.m., he attempted to slow down for traffic but lost control, causing the bike to go left of center and be struck by a 16-year-old boy driving his Plymouth Neon in the other direction.

While Bruce was wearing a helmet, it was not enough to protect him, and he died at the scene. The teen in the other car suffered only minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
