MENTOR -- Police say that suspect Robert Ester in the hospital after his encounter with police K-9 Titan.

About 7:30 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the area of Heisley Road and Mentor Avenue for a reported sighting of Robert Ester. Mentor Ptl. Wurgler arrived with his K9, Titan. They spotted Ester near Half Price Books.

But Ester ran and ignored warnings to stop. Titan apprehended him in the middle of Mentor Avenue.

Ester, 22, is homeless and police say he stays in Mentor and Mentor-on-the-Lake. He is currently under guard in the hospital recovering from his injuries, police say.

Once he is released, police say he will face charges of obstruction of police business, resisting arrest, as well as other charges stemming from an incident on March 6.

He also has three warrants through Mentor Municipal Court, two of which are for unauthorized use of a vehicle and hit-skip.
