Missing Coshocton teen found in pond, autopsy to come

COSHOCTON - The search for Samuel J. Walters came to a conclusion on Friday night, according to a press release.

The Coshocton County Sheriff's Office received a call around 8:34 p.m. Friday in regards to a body being located in a pond.

When emergency personnel arrived, the body of the 15-year-old missing juvenile was located. The Coshocton County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene, and the body was transported to another facility to allow for an autopsy as this investigation continues.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to thank all those who assisted in the search, including all those who donated food and beverages.

Walters went missing about a week ago when the Sheriff's Office received a call about 12:02 a.m. on July 28 in reference to a missing juvenile in the area of County Road 495, just off Ohio 36.

Later on July 28, it was discovered Walters went missing near a pond, and Rogers said a fisherman who was at the pond came forward late on Wednesday. His accounts matched statements from two other individuals who were with Walters shortly before his disappearance.

Assisting in the process were the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office K-9, Dive Team and Mounted Units, Walhonding Valley, Three Rivers and Jackson Township Fire Districts; Coshocton City Fire Department, Fredricktown Fire Department and Dive team, Perry Township Search and Rescue, Coshocton County REACT, ODNR, Holmes County Dive Team, Coshocton County EMS, Dellroy Fire Department K-9 Unit, Medflight of Coshocton, Salvation Army and Christian Aid Ministries Rapid Response Search and Rescue.
