Perkins Township teen dies after collapsing during basketball practice

Stone Ambos, 15, collapsed from what officials are calling a "heart complication" Thursday night in Huron County.

A freshman at Perkins High School in Erie County has died after he collapsed during a practice with his AAU basketball team.

Stone Ambos, 15, collapsed from what officials are calling a "heart complication" Thursday night in Huron County. It is believed he was airlifted to a hospital (perhaps in Michigan), where he passed away Friday morning.

Perkins High School released the following statement on Ambos' death:

Our hearts go out to the family during this difficult time. We will continue to have counselors available for our students and staff. With the consent of the family, we will provide further information as it becomes available.

Jake Meisler, the program director of Stone's team "Ohio Buckets," called the teen's death a "shock," adding that he did "everything you would want from a kid in our program."

"He was just a great friend, man," Meisler said. "I can't stress how great a human being he was."

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Stone's family by Ohio Buckets. It has so far raised nearly $9,000.
