MANSFIELD -- Animal rights group PETA is offering a $5,000 reward to those who can help locate the suspect who lit a firecracker inside a cat.
The cat was found Monday at the Pine Ridge apartment complex on Cook Road, where she lived.
The Richland County Humane Society says a firecracker was set off inside the cat's rectum. The skin on half of her tail and surrounding her tail was gone.
Veterinarians at Phillips Animal Hospital performed surgery on the cat, who has since been renamed Katy P. She was given pain medication following surgery.
PETA is now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for that cat's injuries. The humane society is also offering a $500 reward.
