WEST SALEM, Ohio — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding a driver who crashed into an Amish buggy, killing the horse and hurting the buggy's driver.

It happened at 10:23 p.m. Saturday in Chester Township on Route 301 near Northwestern Middle School. Investigators say a buggy, which was being driven by 20-year-old Christ Hershberger, was struck from behind.

Hershberger was treated at the scene for undisclosed injuries.

The driver who crashed into the buggy didn’t stop, continuing south on Elyria Road while leaving behind a trail of oil.

The vehicle involved is described as a red or brown pickup truck with amber lights on the roof. Damage to the vehicle would be on the right front area.

There were no witnesses to the incident, but anybody with information is asked to call the Wooster Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol at 330-264-0575.
