Loaded gun found at TSA checkpoint inside Cleveland Hopkins Airport

A loaded gun was discovered in a passengers carry on bag Tuesday morning at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

A loaded gun was discovered in a passengers carry on bag Tuesday morning at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

TSA agents found the loaded Ruger 9mm handgun around 6 a.m.

Airport police was immediately notified, the bag was confiscated and the passenger was escorted out of the checkpoint area.

TSA reminds guests that while firearms are permitted in checked bags, it is imperative that all bags are thoroughly checked.

“Passengers are responsible for the contents of bags they bring to the checkpoint,” said Mark Howell, TSA Regional Spokesperson. “Our advice is to look through bags thoroughly before coming to the airport to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items.”

Tuesday's confiscation was the 16th firearm discoverd in 2018. A total of 19 were found in 2017.
