COLUMBUS, Ohio — National Guard units have been working across Ohio and the nation to help local communities amid the coronavirus pandemic.

On Wednesday, the Ohio National Guard deployed its medical personnel to the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg, Ohio.

Members of the guard are there to assist during a medical staffing shortage and as the number of COVID-19 patients increase.

Seven members of the National Guard will help with "taking temperatures, vitals, and providing other support that falls within their level of medical training," officials said in a release.

It is unknown when they will receive orders to return to their base.
