Ohio's unemployment rate improved slightly in September

The new data shows a .5 percent decrease from August's numbers.

OHIO, USA — As Ohioans continue their efforts to recover from the impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic, new data is showing a slight improvement in the unemployment rate. 

On Friday, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Service released data from the month of September showing the unemployment rate at 8.4 percent.

The new data indicates a .5 percent decrease from August's numbers, 8.9 percent. 

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in September was 472,000, down from 510,000 in August. 

The number people unemployed has increased by 232,000 in the past 12 months from 240,000.  The U.S. unemployment rate for September was 7.9%, down from 8.4% in August, and up from 3.5% in September 2019.
