CLEVELAND — Imagine going on trip and when you start packing, you have no suitcase to use so you just throw your stuff in a trash bag. That’s what many kids in foster care do all the time. They often move multiple times and have only trash bags to transport their stuff.
Fostering Hope wants to change that. The non-profit was established in 2013 to raise awareness of the challenges faced by children within the foster care system. One simple way to do that is to provide the kids with Journey Bags.
A Journey Bag is a brand new large duffle bag filled with comfort items and toiletries a child can call his or her own. It’s filled with things like a blanket, a stuffed animal, a water bottle, and a pillow.
According to Fostering Hope, Journey Bags send a message, “You matter, you are not trash.”
If you can help provide a Journey Bag or other items to put inside the bag, visit Fostering Hope’s website. Click on 'Give' at the top of the screen. When you reach that page, scroll down and click on Journey Bag Wish List. That will take you to Amazon where you will see 13 items, including a Journey Bag, that you can buy to help a foster child this holiday season. Your order can then be shipped directly to Fostering Hope.
WKYC Studios employees also helped Fostering Hope this holiday season by buying gifts for both girls and boys living in foster care. Employees choose wish list ornaments off a tree and then went out and bought gifts to make sure these kids have something to smile about this Christmas. Those gifts will be delivered in December.
