American Red Cross partners with Cleveland Indians, Cavaliers & Cleveland Clinic to host September blood drives

Eight blood drives have been held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse since March, obtaining 550 pints of blood to help save up to 1,650 lives.

CLEVELAND — Amid the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, The American Red Cross is seeking additional blood donors for lifesaving transfusions. 

Through a partnership with the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland Clinic, the Red Cross is hosting a blood drive at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Friday and a has now added another drive on Sept. 25. To date since March, eight blood drives have been hosted at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, resulting in 550 pints of blood collected to help save upwards of 1,650 lives. 

Appointments are strongly encouraged before showing up to donate to maintain the flow of the drive appropriately, to align with social distancing protocols, and to accommodate for walk-ins throughout the day. Appointments can be made online at redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor code "ClevelandIndians" or by calling (800) RED-CROSS.

All donors and staff will be required to wear a mask inside the arena. There will be free street parking available to donors in the Gateway Complex located on East 6th Street and Eagle Avenue. Donors can enter Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse via the Cleveland-Cliffs Entrance located on the corner of East 6th and Huron Road.
