CSU freshman thankful for free tuition, room and board thanks to scholarships

Some 30 CSU freshman received the Say Yes to Education scholarship for free tuition, then earned a Parker Hannifin scholarship for free room and board.

“It’s a blessing.”

That’s what Cleveland State University freshman Kierra Stephens said about her opportunity to attend college for free.

She and over 20 others got free tuition as part of the “Say Yes to Education” scholarship that Cleveland schools are now part of. On top of that, they were awarded scholarships from Parker Hannifin that allow them to receive free room and board for the next two years.

“Not only am I able to fully embrace the college experience, I’m able to do it for free, so it's a blessing,” Kierra said.

As part of the free tuition scholarship, kids need mentors. WKYC Studios has partnered with College Now of Greater Cleveland to help in that recruitment process.

If you’d like to be a mentor, you can apply at the College Now website, www.collegenowgc.org. The deadline is March 1.
