Mentor Monday: How you can get involved

Here's how you can help make a difference.

CLEVELAND — Making the decision to go to college is not an easy one. Where to go, how much it’ll cost and what you’ll major in all play a major role.

But with the right mentor, that long list of questions isn’t so bad.

Back in 2011, College Now launched a mentoring program to assist scholarship recipients in successfully completing college.

Breonna Reddick is a senior who tells us having a mentor is critical for her advancement.

Studies show mentorship is a vital component of professional development. In many cases, people reach success because of the help of a mentor guiding them through the inevitable peaks and valleys of life.

And getting there is only half the battle. Mentors also provide professional connections and assistance to help students transition into the working world.

The program is having a huge impact, too, as student retention rates rose 7 percent, to an amazing 97 percent This result is due entirely to mentors.

This is where you come in. WKYC is proud to celebrate 'Mentor Monday' to help make a difference in our community.

New volunteers who sign up on Mentor Monday will join more than 1,000 other professionals who are helping students break the cycle of poverty in Cleveland and become part of our workforce.
