Ravenna schools placed on lockdown after staffer spots armed person on street

A school staff member reported seeing an armed individual walking along the street.

RAVENNA, Ohio — West Main Elementary was placed under a full lockdown Thursday morning after a staff member reported seeing an armed person walking along Main Street.

All other Ravenna schools were placed under a soft lockdown as a precaution.

According to the district, police apprehended the armed individual within 30 minutes after the employee reported the suspect to a school resource officer and called police.

No injuries were reported and there is no longer a threat to students or staff.

A Ravenna police dispatcher says more information will be provided to the media shortly.
