Shots fired in direction of Ravenna officers while conducting traffic stop

RAVENNA, Ohio — Multiple shots were fired in the direction of Ravenna police officers while they were conducting a traffic stop investigation, police said Thursday morning.

It happened at 2:01 a.m. when officers stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of Oakwood Street for an equipment violation.

“During the course of the stop, officers had the driver out of his car for investigation,” police said in a press release. “A few minutes into the traffic stop, multiple shots were fired in the direction of the officers.”

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, and authorities say several shell casings were found in the 300 block of Diamond Street.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is processing the scene.

Police tell 3News the driver of the vehicle was arrested on unrelated charges.

"As of right now, there are no connections between the driver and the shooter," police said.

Authorities are searching for the person(s) who fired the shots.

Nobody was hurt.

The incident remains under investigation.
