Red Cross assisting after Akron apartment building fire

Fire officials say people were beating on the doors of the apartment units to make sure everyone got out.

AKRON, Ohio — The Red Cross is assisting after a fire broke out at a four-unit apartment building in Akron.

According to the Akron Fire Department, crews were called to Zahn Drive shortly before 12:30 P.M. on Monday and arrived to heavy smoke on scene with Akron Police reporting flames coming from one of the windows.

Fire officials say people were beating on the doors of the apartment units to make sure everyone got out.

All those living inside got out safely and there were no injuries reported.

Two apartment units were displaced as a result of the fire. The Red Cross was called in to assist three adults and four children.
