Reviving University Square with 203 apartments, retail

Right now, most of the center located on Cedar Road is vacant. Macy's, Target, and Applebee's are the only occupants at this time.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — University Square could soon get a facelift.

University Heights city council unanimously approved a development agreement with KL Holdings, LLC to redevelop the shopping center.

Right now, most of the center located on Cedar Road is vacant. Macy's, Target, and Applebee's are the only occupants at this time.

However, KL Holdings wants to change that and transform the center into a vibrant mixed-use complex. There are plans to build 203 apartment units and retail space between Target and Macy's.

City leaders say they are excited to revive the shopping center. They also added this new agreement takes them one "step closer to hard hats and shovels."
