'We'll do it for them' : Prom Project gave Southeast Texas high school students in foster care system a day of 'glam and fun'

"We may say or do one thing today that turns a kid around."

BEAUMONT, Texas — The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services' 15th annual Prom Project gave high school students currently in the foster care system a day full of "glam and fun."

It all went down Saturday. The boys began their day with lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings in Beaumont at 1 p.m.

Southeast Texas Family Court Judge Randy Shelton was on hand to give the teens some prom tips and to "show them a few dance moves."

The guys went from Buffalo Wild Wings to Sports Clips in the Kroger Shopping Center, where they all got fresh new haircuts. After getting their new looks, they rode off in style in a corvette that was provided by The Tri-City Corvette Club.

"These kids have not had the best life, so anything that we can do, we'll do it for them," Michael Merideth, Tri-City Corvette Club board member, said. "We may say or do one thing today that turns a kid around."

The corvette took the boys to Ortiz Formal Wear to get outfitted in their tuxes for the prom.

The girls got to choose from thousands of dresses at The Courtyard Café in Groves. The dresses were donated by members of the Southeast Texas community.

After picking out a dress, the girls got their hair and makeup done by a professional hair stylist and makeup artist. They then put on a style show in their new attire as they waited for their dates to arrive.

The guys later joined the girls at The Courtyard Café in Groves for dinner and danced the night away to the beat of a live DJ.
