SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — An investigation is underway after two teen girls were shot in Shaker Heights.
The Shaker Heights Police Department told 3News that they responded to the 3000 block of Colwyn Road around 7:36 p.m. after hearing reports of shots fired.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers say they found two 14-year-old girls from Shaker Heights in a parked vehicle with gunshot wounds.
Both teens were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to police.
It is believed the shots were fired from a gray Ford truck with tinted windows.
The girls are cousins and are eighth and ninth grade students at Shaker Heights schools. Police say one was shot in the arm, while the other shot in the thigh when they were caught in the crossfire of the drive-by shooting.
A 911 call after the incident was shared with 3News. "Please, I need the police. I think my granddaughter just got shot. She's 14-years-old. She's in my niece's car. Somebody went past and shot like five times," the caller said.
A neighbor tells 3News that the girls are "never trouble" and he's shocked that something like this would happen to them.
Investigators add that the girls were outside trying to get some peace and quiet, so they went to sit in the car. That's when the bullets rang out.
