STARK COUNTY, Ohio — A 69-year-old Massillon man is dead after being fatally struck on Tuscarawas Street West in Perry Township on Tuesday night.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Canton, Michael Tyson illegally crossed the busy intersection and was struck by a car driven by 59-year-old Cheryl Evans of Massillon.

Tyson was pronounced dead at the scene, while Evans was taken to Mercy Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Investigators say that drug use appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Ohio State Highway Patrol said this is the seventh fatal-pedestrian accident on Tuscarawas St. in the last two years. There were six pedestrian fatalities in Stark County in 2018.
