All Kent State campuses closed on Thursday due to winter storm

Online classes will continue as scheduled, while all in-person classes will not meet in person.

KENT, Ohio — With this week's winter storm in Northeast Ohio underway, Kent State University has announced that all of its campuses will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 3.

According to an advisory posted by the university, all online classes will continue as scheduled. Meanwhile, in-person classes will not meet in person, but instructors will have the option to "conduct a synchronous online session or assign appropriate asynchronous work."

Students will be notified via e-mail or in Blackboard or Canvas whether there will be a synchronous online session or assignment for their in-person classes. Students who are unsure whether their classes will be meeting synchronously or if they have an assignment should contact the class' instructor via email. Students who are in special classes, including clinical rotations and internships, should consult with their supervisor.

As for employees, essential personnel is asked to check with their supervisors to determine their work plan during the campus closure. Meanwhile, nonessential staff without an approved telecommuting arrangement "should not report to campus and are not expected to work remotely during the campus closure," while the 277 nonessential staff members with approved telecommuting arrangements should check with their supervisors to determine their work plan for Thursday.

Other changes to Kent State's operations on Thursday include:

  • Residential dining areas will remain open. A list of updated hours of operation for each dining location can be found at the University Culinary Services website.
  • The Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center will open at 10 a.m.
  • University Libraries may adjust its hours and services. Details can be found at www.library.kent.edu
  • The DeWeese Health Center may adjust its hours and services. Visit www.kent.edu/uhs for details.
  • COVID-19 testing by Visit Healthcare will not occur while the campus is closed.

Normal Kent State campus operations are expected to resume at 6 a.m. on Friday.
