A man was shot dead in Massillon Monday night after police say he tried to gain re-entrance into a locked home where he had assaulted his mother multiple times.

Police say they arrived at a home in Rolling Acres Park on 27th St. Northwest around 9:45 p.m. and discovered a woman had been assaulted by her adult son, identified as Garett Davis. Davis initially fled the scene before officers arrived, but later returned during the investigation around 11 p.m. and assaulted his mom again. After he got away once more, the doors to the home were locked.

According to authorities, Davis attempted to enter the home a third time, but as he tried to come in through a bedroom window, he was shot once in the chest. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died just before midnight.

At this time, officials are not revealing who they believe shot Davis, but do say "no arrests in this case are imminent." The situation will be reviewed by the Massillon City Prosecutor.

Anyone with further information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Massillon Det. Jason Gohlike at (330) 830-1787.
