The Massillon Fire Department was busy early this morning battling two separate fires within hours of each other.

At 1:38 Saturday morning, they responded to a house fire at 710 Griffith Street. The first floor was heavily involved in fire when the fire department arrived. Two people were treated and transported to the hospital. One of the victims had significant injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Then about two hours later at 3:39 Saturday morning, another fire was reported at 3370 Carmont Street. The responding crews found the entire structure on fire but luckily the occupants had escaped and no injuries were reported.

The cause of that fire also remains under investigation.

Although these two fires occurred in close proximity with respect to time and geographic location, there is no current evidence to show they are in any way related.

Anyone who has information regarding either of these incidents is asked to contact the Massillon Fire Department at (330) 833-1053.
