STARK COUNTY, Ohio — A North Canton man has been charged in the fatal car crash that killed a 53-year-old man in Jackson Township in September.

According to the Jackson Township Police Department, 27-year-old Jacob Lee Muiter has been arrested on the following charges:

  • F3 – Aggravated Vehicular Homicide – Recklessly
  • F3 – Aggravated Vehicular Assault
  • F5 – Improperly Handling Firearms in Motor Vehicle
  • M1 – OVI - Alcohol
  • M1 – OVI – Drugs
  • MM – Reckless Operation
  • MM – Speeding

The incident occurred on Sept. 11 when Muiter was driving a 2014 Chevy Silverado westbound on Strausser Street, NW. After going left of the centerline, Muiter's vehicle struck a 2017 Toyota, driven by 53-year-old John Pappas and his passenger, 52-year-old Kristine Pappas, both from Uniontown.

John Pappas was pronounced dead on the scene and Kristene Pappas was transported to the Mercy Medical Center by the Jackson Township Fire Department. Muiter refused medical treatment at the scene, but sought medical treatment at a later time.

An investigation by the Jackson Township Police Department found drugs and speed to be a factor in the crash, with Muiter also found to be under the influence of alcohol.
