Ohio State Highway Patrol investigating deadly wrong-way crash in Stark County

Officials believe that alcohol is a factor in the accident

STARK COUNTY, Ohio — An investigation is underway by the Ohio State Highway Patrol following a fatal crash in Stark County.

The crash happened on Saturday, July 16, at around 10:43 p.m. on the westbound side of U.S. Route 30 in Tuscarawas Township.

30-year-old Franco Guidone from Louisville, in a 2019 Chevrolet Trax, was driving on the wrong side of a divided highway. Eventually, he struck 62-year-old Douglas Fahrni of Apple Creek. 

Fahrni suffered life-threatening injuries when the crash happened. He was brought to Aultman Hospital and later passed away. 

Guidone suffered serious injuries from the crash and is currently being treated at Aultman Hospital. 

When the crash happened, an off-duty police officer from Perry Township Police Department and an off-duty paramedic from the Perry Township Fire Department assisted by providing aid.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was aided at the crash by the Massillon Police Department, the Brewster Fire Department, the North Lawrence Fire Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

At this time, officials believe that alcohol is a contributing factor to the accident.
