27-year-old man shot, killed in Akron after alleged altercation

A 27-year-old woman was arrested in connection to the shooting and is being charged with murder and felonious assault.

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police and the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating after a 27-year-old man was shot and killed on Wednesday.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office says that the shooting happened on May 24, at around 6:30 p.m. Based on a preliminary investigation from Akron police, the victim and his friend stopped at a residence on Kohler Avenue when an altercation over property began. Moments later, the driver and the victim, stopped near 27th Street and Carey Avenue.

Akron police say the suspect, an acquaintance of the driver followed them after the altercation and fired a shot that struck the victim and the car before she fled the scene.

The victim, who was identified as Brandon Colter of Akron, was taken to Akron General Medical Center via a private vehicle, where he died from his injuries at 7:14 p.m.

Akron police say 27-year-old Kaelyn Smith was arrested and is being charged with murder and felonious assault.
