AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man has been found guilty of murdering a woman in 2020.
Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced that a Summit County Jury found 23-year-old Tyree Omenai of Akron guilty of the murder of Tiffany Rhea.
He was also found guilty in attempting to murder Johnathan Armstead.
Omenai was found guilty by the jury on the following charges:
- Murder, with a Firearm Specification – a special felony
- Two Counts of Aggravated Robbery, with Firearm Specifications – felonies of the first degree
- Having Weapons Under Disability – a felony of the third degree
On Jan. 22, 2022, at around 4:10 p.m. Rhea and Armstead were planning on meeting Tyler Johnson. When the victims pulled up to meet Johnson, Omenai met them and got into the back seat of the vehicle with their five-year-old son.
"Omenai then indicated it was a robbery and pulled out a gun. The victims tried to get Omenai away from their child," said the Summit County Prosecutor in a statement. "A struggle ensued and Omanai fled firing multiple times killing Tiffany."
28-year-old Tyler Johnson of Akron pleaded guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter on March 30, 2021.
Omenai and Johnson will be sentenced at a later time.
