Man dies in Barberton garage fire

The fire took the life of 56-year-old David Garrett. The cause of the fire on Wooster Road North is under investigation.

BARBERTON, Ohio — A man is dead following a garage fire in Barberton on Friday morning.

Barberton fire officials say they responded to the scene at 433 Wooster Road North at 7:50 a.m. Upon their arrival, crews removed a man from a fully involved detached garage fire. 

The victim, who has been identified as 56-year-old David Garrett, was taken to Akron General Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Fire officials say the Summit County Medical Examiner will rule on the cause of death. 

At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshall's Office.

The Barberton Fire Department was assisted by the Coventry, Norton, New Franklin and Akron fire departments.
