Mother of missing 14-year-old girl arrested for lying on police report

Her daughter still has not been found.

The mother of a missing 14-year-old girl has been arrested for issuing a false police report, authorities confirmed Thursday afternoon.

Helenea Clay, whose daughter Annalys Clay is still missing, was taken into custody Wednesday night in Barberton and is currently in the Summit County Jail. Helenea originally told police Annalys assaulted her while she was driving her car on Norwood St. in Barberton before leaving the vehicle and entering another with her cousin Louis Jakab.

In reality, however, Annalys was last seen at a Sheetz gas station on Pearl Road in Strongsville. This false statement led to the charges against Helenea.

Annalys Clay has still been missing since Dec. 3 and is believed to be with the 33-year-old Jakab, who was previously convicted of manslaughter and is wanted for violating his parole. Jakab is also suspected of impregnating the teen after the two had a sexual relationship in October.

Clay is described as 5-foot-5, weighing 125 pounds with red hair and blue eyes, while Jakab is 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds with a shaved head and blue eyes. The pair may have fled the state and was last seen in a 2017 black Audi A3 with an Ohio license plate of HED3844. Those plates were reported stolen in Cleveland.

Police have stressed this is not an Amber Alert, but they do believe Annalys Clay could be in danger and that she is also in need of her medication. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Clay and Jakab is asked to call the Akron Police Dept. at (330) 375-2181.
