Pedestrian killed after struck by vehicle on I-77 in Summit County

GREEN, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a pedestrian, who was struck on I-77 North at the 119 mile marker in Green around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Authorities said it happened when an 18-year-old Akron man was driving a 1999 Volkswagen on I-77 “when he struck a male pedestrian who was in the roadway.”

The man, who has not yet been identified, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

I-77 North was closed for approximately five hours after the incident.

The driver was not hurt, authorities said.

No additional details were immediately available.
