Summit County man arrested in connection with Los Angeles sexual assault investigation

The arrest of Antonio Carlos Diaz came after members of the Los Angeles Police Department contacted the Summit County Sheriff's office for assistance.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — A Twinsburg Township man was arrested on Tuesday in connection to a sexual assault that occurred in Los Angeles, CA.

According to the Summit County Sheriff's office, a search warrant was obtained for the residence of Antonio C. Diaz, age 60, of Twinsburg Township, after their office was contacted by the Los Angeles Police Department regarding an ongoing investigation involving the rape of a juvenile.

Earlier this month, the LAPD asked for assistance in the investigation because the suspect lives in Summit County. The LAPD had issued a number of felony arrest warrants for Mr. Diaz for criminal charges in the State of California including Lewd Acts upon a child (4 counts), Oral Copulation (4 counts), Sexual Penetration, Sodomy of a Person under the Age of Sixteen, and Possession of Child Youth Pornography.

On Tuesday, the Summit County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at Diaz's home in Twinsburg Township. During the search, deputies recovered electronic evidence and data related to the sexual assault investigation. The LAPD conducted a simultaneous search warrant on a known business of Antonio Diaz in Los Angeles, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

Diaz was arrested at his residence following the execution of the search warrant and was booked into the Summit County Jail, where he waits extradition to the state of California. The LAPD reportedly states that additional sexual assault victims may be uncovered as a result of the investigation into Mr. Diaz. 

Additional charges in the state of Ohio are pending as well after further review of the evidence recovered by the search warrant.
